Lululemon Lab's current window displays are the result of a collaborative project with Emily Carr University of Art and Design. I was in downtown today and took some photos I thought might inspire us. The first ones have a great idea for the fabric and having it stretched around a tubular structure, the next one fits into the idea of the observer theme and the last ones reminded me of the lightbox idea that was mentioned.

Vinyl graphics/ manifesto quote for sewer's windows

As found in the (top-secret) development .pdf's I sent out today, we have the OK to do some simple/ elegant vinyl graphics across the sewers windows. They will be installed with the first round and will be permanent throughout the changes in the other windows.

- They must not block/ intervene with view of sewers (aka the heartbeat of the lab!) from the street.

Here's the proposed quote from the lululemon manifesto:

"Athletic-induced endorphins give you the power to make better decisions."

However, the pdf's did not illustrate my current vision. I plan to arrange the copy to span across the window, descending from the top left corner of the far window, leading the viewer's eye to the main retail entry & displays. I'd also like to do some simple, complimentary line work, and possibly integrate this into the other windows to give a greater sense of cohesiveness.

I'm envisioning some whimsical/ swirly/ loopy maybe bubbles, yoga-inspired - nothing too heavy.

HOWEVER, feedback from Helen & Dawei kinda leaves me wondering if I'm way out to lunch in this direction? They mentioned it doesn't capture the strength, power, punch, impact of our intention. I thought the large scale would take care of this... what are your thoughts?

Would love to hear further constructive feedback and ideas.

Laser/ projector ideation

Re: projection onto the sidewalk from inside.

This idea is for the first installation, "Night Train."

Really liking the abstract images moving over form as shown below.
We could possibly shoot something similar with a programmable laser projector but over a crowd of hands in the air, clapping, bangzin some cowbells, etc!

Or simplify - by just doing the laser projection directly onto the (flat) sidewalk. Laser could be visible during the daytime, while regular projector would likely be a night time feature only.

And there's something really cool about this display/installation. I love the way they've created a new 'floor' and have used the space underneath it. Granted the whole thing is slightly creepy but it's pretty rad.

I really love the use of graphics to make a big impact and give the impression of movement in the pictures on the right.

Big Impact, in a very simple way. Great creative use of text. Think of the possibilities with that large front window.

Beautiful use of modular space. The boxes are attached by velcro... this could be an interesting method of modular assembly. Perhaps we can create a wall (a big velcro wall) + have storage boxes filled with product attached to it. We can change it depending on the display...

Spaziale Series by Studio Wai & Lanzavecchia

Spaziale is a series of furniture that takes on curves when covered with a skin fabric. The fabric skins can be replaced with different colors rendering the piece of furniture dynamic and ever–changing. Keeping in mind the use of fabric at the lab and the need for a simple yet effective exhibition solution, perhaps we can have a space that structurally remains the same but changes in color and material.

Designed for the Centre for Design and Architecture, this exhibition is both innovative, eye catching, and uses a widely available material that can be reused for other purposes.

From Fantastic Norway: “Based on the thrill of unpacking, the exhibition consists of over 3000 hanging cardboard boxes resembling a large pixilated cloud hovering over the exhibited material. The construction creates a large variety of spaces, from cave like to lifted and open areas, inside the 350m2 exhibition hall. The objects and design concepts are exhibited both inside and outside the boxes.”
